The most common method of powering a vertical platform lift is normal household (AC) current. However, the VPL will not run in an electrical outage if powered by AC. Therefore, the safer and more reliable means is battery operation. Even in a power outage, a battery-operated VPL will be able to travel several round trips. Bruno 4- and 6-foot VPLs come standard with AC power, and optional battery operation. In Bruno VPLs above 10 feet, battery operation is standard.

A Bruno vertical platform lift includes everything needed for proper, safe usage of the device, but there are also several popular options. As the VPL travels upward, the platform ramp folds to stop a mobility device from rolling backward. An optional platform gate can give an extra level of safety and security. Rather than pulling a platform gate open manually, some people also choose to add a power operator that opens the platform gate with a push of a button. There are also many optional platform sizes to accommodate various size mobility devices.

Smart Sense: The SmartSense PC board was designed to help prevent issues that may affect the Highlander II’s performance by monitoring the motor temperature, cycle count, battery status, and other features.Steady Drive: Harmar’s new VPL offers a smoother ride, thanks to the Steady Drive’s high lead ACME screw. As the VPL moves, the screw rotates 75% slower than the competition, leading to significantly reduced vibration as you ride. This reliable gear replaces traditional pulleys, which can mean fewer maintenance visits. ReadyUPS: Call in for backup in the event of a power outage! The ReadyUPS is an optional “Battery Backup” system known as an Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS). This power supply automatically activates in the event of a power outage, providing a minimum of 5 complete up-down cycles. Big Blue Paddle: Small switches can be hard to find and operate. Users can operate the lift by pressing the easy-to-use Big Blue Paddle to enjoy a stable, smooth, and quiet ride while remaining in their mobility device. Every safety detail has been carefully designed in the Mac’s Vertical Home Lift including a non-slip platform, constant pressure switches, a low platform for easy access, safety ramp and railing with all rolled edges. The drive system uses common household current and operates in all weather conditions, from -30 degrees to +120 degrees. The key-operated, constant pressure switch enables you to start, stop and change directions at any point, unlike many of the other lifts out there. The electrical system is placed well above ground and sealed against moisture. The lift is finished with an automotive grade powder coat to further protect the lift against the elements.
The Mac’s Vertical Home Lift PL-50 is sturdy enough to lift and lower up to 750 lbs and will accommodate most electric wheelchairs and scooters. In fact we ran a PL-50 with a full 750 lb load,continuously on a cycle that lifted and lowered the platform 1 time a minute, 60 times an hour, 1,440 times a day with no rest. That lift ran for 3 months, outside on our roof and completed over 129,600 cycles without fail or need for maintenance. So if you were to use this lift 1 time a day your lift would run for over 355 years without a single lost day!
